Description

This collection of geospatial data files provides a global representation of mycorrhizal nutrient acquisition cost parameters for the top 100 cm of soil. It includes separate raster files for carbon and nitrogen acquisition costs associated with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) and ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungi. The dataset is encapsulated in four GeoTIFF files, each containing a global map at a resolution of 0.1667 degrees (~18.5 km at the equator). The 'kc' files represent the carbon acquisition cost parameters (Kc), and the 'kn' files represent the nitrogen acquisition cost parameters (Kn) for AM and EcM fungi. These cost parameters are crucial for the estimation of the carbon-nitrogen trade-offs in Earth System Models (ESMs) and contribute to a better understanding of the terrestrial carbon cycle.

  • kc_ecm_soilgrids_0-100cm.tif: Carbon acquisition cost parameters for ectomycorrhizal fungi across global soils.
  • kn_ecm_soilgrids_0-100cm.tif: Nitrogen acquisition cost parameters for ectomycorrhizal fungi across global soils.
  • kc_am_soilgrids_0-100cm.tif: Carbon acquisition cost parameters for arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi across global soils.
  • kn_am_soilgrids_0-100cm.tif: Nitrogen acquisition cost parameters for arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi across global soils.

Each file contains a single band of 32-bit floating-point values detailing the respective cost parameter values, with global coverage from -180 to 180 degrees longitude and -90 to 90 degrees latitude. The datasets are integral to quantifying the role of mycorrhizal associations in carbon and nutrient cycling, offering a high-resolution tool for ecological and biogeochemical research.
